John R. Smith III

Assistant Principal

I am a dedicated and passionate educator with extensive experience fostering student success and cultivating an environment promoting academic excellence. Since beginning my teaching career in 2005, I have remained committed to helping students reach their full potential.

As Assistant Principal, I focus on improving instructional practices, building strong relationships with students, and ensuring a positive and supportive school culture. My passion for teaching and student achievement fuels my leadership approach, which emphasizes collaboration, continuous improvement, and the development of lifelong learners. I believe every student deserves the opportunity to succeed, and I am determined to remove any barriers to learning they may face.

I am deeply rooted in Cook County, where I was born and raised, and I take great pride in seeing our students thrive at Cook Elementary School. As a 1999 graduate of Cook High School, I had the honor of playing varsity tennis for all four years and varsity basketball during my senior year. I continued my education at Valdosta State University (2005), Walden University (M.Ed. 2010, Ed.S. 2013), and the University of West Georgia (Tier 1 and Tier 2 Leadership Certification). In my twentieth year with the Cook County School System, I spent 17 years at Cook Middle School before transitioning to Assistant Principal at Cook Elementary.

My wife, Margaret, and I have two beautiful children. I look forward to continuing my work in a community I love and support our students as they achieve great things.
